Thoughts In The Hills

Darjeeling is fantastic. The people are drastically different from those in the valley. They are mostly Tibetan and Nepalese. Friendly, considerate, thoughful people who's last thing on their mind is their own ego. I could get used to people like this.

I'm looking foward to spending my birthday in the middle of a Nepalese trek sipping wine and eating noodle soup while looking at the 8000 meter high mountains surrounding me.

life is good.

she was sweet 16 baby beauty queen

So I was hanging out with my friend Lauren who is currently living in NYC attending a school that specializes in jewelry. Her friend had come down with her. Really cool girl originally from Bangkok, but has been all over the world. We talked a bit about places I've been in Asia and a little about my upcoming trip to India. In the end, we talked about New York and how fucking awesome it is.

I would really like to live in NYC. I have even emailed my cousin about it, and I'm sure it can work...at least for a week or two haha. Which is to say, its a fucking tough city, not sure I'm up for it. What would I do? Where would I live? It'd be a mess, but perhaps one that will change my life for the better. Anyways, just an idea, among many.

SSSOOO, in thinking about new york, I decided to re-discover a lot of music that I assosiate with it. Bands like Les Savy Fav, Enon, Smoke and Smoke, Call Me Lightning, Fatal Flying Guilloteens. Basically, everything on frenchkiss records and a touch and go records. If you know any of these bands, you'll know that none of them are actually from New York ( I think). Mostly Mid-west bands that were recognized from playing NY shows.

In looking up some info on John Schmersal of Enon (sparked by his comments on my cousin's facebook), I found some interesting stuff about artists who simply can't take the NY heat. Apparantly a huge scene is/has been developing in philadelphia, aka: New York's 6th borough.

Ps: If you already know this, then you'll think I'm lame for only knowing this now. I don't care.

So then I thought, maybe I'll move to philly if theyve got cheap rent and a shitload of artists and small communities forming up there. Then in the same column, it talked about its incredibly high crime rate. Perhaps it aint always sunny in philadelphia. hardihardihar.
